All over the country, day to day, some 2,000 workers put their best efforts into work to guarantee quality, independence and transparency of public statistics produced by INE. These constitute the three fundamental principles and pillars of the institution.
Over 600 surveyors move throughout the country, searching for data that afterwards is processed, analyzed and published by INE's professionals and technicians. To this end, cutting-edge technologies and methodologies are used, and international standards and recommendations are adopted on a regular basis.
INE's statistical production goes from huge logistic operations, such as the Housing and Population Census that mobilizes over 400,000 volunteers in just one day, to the employment survey and the consumer price index (CPI). This information ensures a wide and consistent base for public policies and private projects. In total, 70 products are published regularly.
In addition to producing quality data, it is critical that this information is used intensively. For that reason, INE is constantly providing statistical information through a modern website (www.ine.cl), where you can access charts, series, databases, publications, working papers, methodologies and contact points. Furthermore, INE is highly committed to social and economic research, allowing the national academic and research community to access easily -and timely- to the most important statistics.
At the same time, there are research centres in the 15 regions of the country and special attention is granted to the media.
Commitment to quality is also reflected in the efforts made to achieve and adopt international best practices. Within its vision statement, INE has pledged to attain - by 2010 - the standards of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), where he currently participates as observer in working groups and workshops that are key to its technical development.
Transparency, quality and technical independence, coupled with a professional management, guide our service vocation to the community.
